Meet Sheldon Wade

Position: Gest Speaker and Educator at TAFMUA

Qualifications: Over 20 years experience with several nominations for outstandning work as a makeup artist

About Sheldon: Sheldon recently won accolades for his make-up work which transformed actor Richard Roxburgh to a spitting image of corrupt ex-detective Roger Rogerson for the telemovie, Blue Murder: Killer Cop.

Career Highlights: Sheldon Wade is known for his work on Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), The Wolverine (2013) , The Rover (2014), The Great Gatsby (2013), Catching Milat (2015) and The Sapphires (2012) to name a few!

What does a typical day or week for you look like?

A typical day for me involves looking through the scenes that are shooting that day, making notes about what’s happening in each scene from the script breakdown and then having meetings with the make-up team to discuss how the day’s going to unfold and then assign everyone with their tasks. This is all before we get the cast in for make-up. Once the actors are done, I’ll either follow them onto set and stay there while they film, or stay on the bus to make-up other actors while I’m preparing for the coming days ahead.

What is the best thing about your job?

Creating — or recreating in some circumstances — telling stories in a visual way. I love researching times and events in history. It’s great to collaborate with others to come up with something creative.

Sheldon is a guest speaker and when not working on a movie teaches the Special FX and Hairstyling modules as part of the Diploma and Advanced Certificate In Makeup coourses.

Meet Julie Elton

Position: Senior Makeup Educator At TAFMUA

Bio: Julie Elton is a Sydney-based makeup artist with significant experience in editorial, bridal, runway and television makeup. Her passion lies in bridal and beauty work, and she’s been creating breathtaking makeup looks for more than 25 years.

About Julie: Julie's makeup career started when she was 16. During her journey she studied beauty therapy and worked internationally as a trainer and educator. Having experience in all these areas allows her to offer not only makeup services, but advice on skincare, health and wellbeing.

Julie's work is very personalised, and it’s not just about creating a 'pretty face.'

To her, the 'canvas' is the most important part of makeup. Before she starts painting, she likes to look at each individual's skin type, colouring and natural beauty and take a holistic approach to enhancing what is naturally already there.

Julie has extensive experience in all cultures and skin types and have worked in all areas of the makeup industry, from fashion and television, to media and print, but my real passion is beauty and bridal work.

As well as teaching at TAFMUA Julie is also the Head Makeup Trainer for Priceline Pharmacies.

You can see Julie's work on several magazine covers such as Modern Brides, Luxury Brides, Gowns and her work also features in many magazine editorials and advertisements.
