This course is suitable for students and makeup artists wanting a career as a Special FX makeup artist in film or TV. This 10 week course comprises several special FX modules and 1 major assignment designed to extend the student's creativity and technical processes. Delivered by award winning special FX artist educators students receive formal training and also get to work on a short film and create a character in front of a panel of leading industry creatives. 

 

CASUALTY/MOULAGE
In this module we will teach you how to makeup and apply materials to create wounds associated with fighting, car accidents, war zones and bomb blasts. We take you from minor injuries through to major trauma such as limb amputation and evisceration. We will teach you how to create bruises, skin diseases, grazes, cuts, scars, bullet holes, embedded objects, puncture wounds, fractures, knife wounds, slits and more! Not for the faint hearted!

 

BALD CAPS

Learn how to make and apply a bald cap like the experts! Colour for effect and create your own character. 

 

CHARACTER & HAIR

In this module students learn how to age a character, make a character look tired, sick and dirty! Students then learn how to apply lace and crepe hair for effect and apply rotten teeth!

SCRIPT BREAKDOWN/ PRE-PRODUCTION FILM SET
Learn how to analyse a character, determine makeup changes according to the script and understand how to prioritize the makeup department during pre-production. This module provides essential skills for students wanting to work in film and TV.

 
PROSTHETICS & 3D TRANSFERS
Design, make and apply a range of prosthetic pieces and 3D transfers. This module also covers the theory of prosthetics and working procedures, airbrushing, health and safety practices, sculpting and the application of pieces with make-up to achieve a final finished creative piece of your choice.

GRAND FINALE SHOWCASE
Students create a character and bring it to life! This final module showcases 1 makeup look as designed by the student to show to a panel of leading industry creatives.
